That Was 2026

Nine days. One jazz club on the Center Camp plaza at 7:15. A truly unreasonable quantity of dust.

It was a whiteout year. On the Thursday the city simply went white, the gate shut, and for a while the only dependable way to find anything out there was to stop and listen for it. Which, if we are honest, is how we prefer to be found anyway.

Then it rained in the night. The playa went quiet and heavy and strange, everyone’s boots gained nine pounds, and for a day afterwards the dust stopped chasing us around.

The horns came out every single night regardless. The house band played, the jam ran past two more often than it did not, and a lot of people who had never called a tune in their lives called a tune.

Thanks for a great year. We had a great time.

To everyone who sat down, everyone who played, everyone who took a solo they were not sure about, and everyone who brought a mug: thank you. The club is down, the Rhodes is home, and we are already thinking about next year.

What we are raising for

A new structure for 2027.

The club has been held up by the same hard working pile of poles and canvas for a long time now, and it has earned its retirement. We want to build the café a proper new home for next year: better shade, a better stage, a bar that does not wobble, and somewhere the piano can live without being slowly eaten by the playa.

Center Camp Plaza @ 7:15 · 2026 · That one is in the books.

Playa Jazz Café is the world’s best jazz club at Burning Man, a real live music venue in Black Rock City, built over two decades by musicians from across the globe. In 2026 we played every night at Center Camp Plaza @ 7:15. We will be back in 2027, and you are welcome at the bar the moment we are.

Every night, as the desert cools, musicians from around the world gather beneath canvas and stars to create something that has never existed before and will never happen again.

Some have played together for decades. Others meet moments before they step onto the stage. No two nights are ever the same.

Pull up to the bar. Grab a mimosa or a jazz nitro. Our friendly bar staff is ready to serve you your favorite libation.

Then sit down for some jazz or all sorts of jazz, vibey adjacent grooves and music that isn't crap made by AI prompts. Real humans only. Promptable by humans. Go ahead. Give us a try.

Tonight

The truck is unpacked. The Rhodes is home.

That was a good one. Thank you.

We rise again in Black Rock City, 2027.

When the desert cools, the horns come back out.

The camp at sunrise: hand-painted JAZZ CAFE letters, a fire sculpture, and the open playa beyond.

On the plaza clock at 7:15 · Nine nights in 2026 · Followed by the sound.

Live jazz in the dust. No backing tracks. No sequencers. Just the real thing.

The club is free, and it is not cheap. Transport, shade, a bar that works and a piano that is somehow in tune out there all cost real money, and the whole thing is paid for by the people who love it. Right now it is going towards a new structure for 2027, which is the upgrade the café has needed for years. What gets given in the quiet months is what gets built next August.
